Sacred Heart College celebrated it’s first Research Day on 15/12/2018.The Resource Person for the day was Dr. D. Ravi Shankaran, Centre for Nano Sciences and technology, University of Madras. All the staff, PG and UG third year students participated in this celebration. Rev. Dr. Maria Arockiaraj, The additional principal welcomed the gathering and introduced the resource person of the day. Rev. Dr. D.  Maria Antonyraj, the principal of the college presented the research credentials of the Institute. The presentation briefed the history of how the research centre kick-started. Rev. Dr. C.M. Varghese, SDB  was given the privilege of  directing the research centre,  then the baton was passed on to Dr. Jayabalan. The good work has been carried over to the next level with the able administration of Dr. M. Jose, presently.  Dr. M. Jose, The Dean of Research, released the staff research profile book and online journals of various departments.

This was followed by the release of Bio Wings, a book by Dr. I. Niya’s Ahamed, Department of Bio Chemistry. Dr. Pon Selvakumar, The Head of the Department of Tamil, Launched a new website titled Tamil Nilam, a website that brings out the research activities of Dr. Prabhu on the archaeological surveys of Tamil Culture.

It was followed by the presentation of the research activities of the department. Later cash awards were given to the staff and students from arts and science departments. The best department for research was awarded to both arts and science departments. The best research award for faculty of arts was given to Dr. K. Parthibaraja, Department of Tamil. The best research award for faculty of science was given to Dr. Britto Antony Xavier, Department of Mathematics. The best research award to scholars was given to Rev. Fr. John Borg, SDB, Department of Mathematics. The best department of research for arts was awarded to Tamil. The best department of research for science was awarded to The Department of Bio-Chemistry.

The Chief Guest admired and appreciated the efforts of the management and the staff for their sincere efforts. He spoke on how research is performed and understood globally.
Mr. Henston, Assistant Professor, Department of English, inspired the audience with his team singing the youth song. The Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Martin Britto Das. He thanked the administration and the staff for their excellent support towards the growth of the institution.
