The History of the HouseThe presence at Thennangudy was formally declared a parish on November 15th, 2000, by Rt. Rev. Michael Augustine, the then Bishop of Pondicherry – Cuddalore, who also placed Fr. Job David SDB as the parish priest. The parish consists of about 13,000 parishioners spread across 17 villages grouped under 14 substations which were bifurcated from the main Karaikal Parish. When the Salesians took up the parish, regular visits to the sub stations were made in evening. This initiative helped to know the real situation of the people and to plan for the development of the parish which culminated ultimately in constructing a nice parish church and associated facilities for the parish in the vicinity.
The backward and poorest classes of the society form the main block of the parishioners. 11 of the substations of this parish have small chapels built by the missionaries dating back to over 120 years. But due to lack of suitable pastoral care, the faith level of the people has remained shallow. The parish ministry has also been bolstered by the acquisition of a Higher Secondary school at Nedungaadu (about 12 kilometres away) which is evolving to be a very fruitful ministry and eventually could develop into a separate institution by its own right.
