The History of the House

Responding to the invitation of the Bishop of Ooty Rev. Anadarayar in 2003, Fr. Jeromedas Varuvel from Don Bosco – Kotagiri began weekly visits to study the Thalavady area. In the same year the presence was registered with the title Don Bosco Tribal People Advancement Society. Fr. Jeromedhas braving many odds took up the residence at Thalavadi and began a community college and was joined by Fr. Amalan Seraphin. 32 acres of land was bought at Kanakuntur in Sathyamangalam taluk and a training centre was began at Thalavadi (with a Christian base of 8 parishes and 6000 Catholics), along with self-help-groups, evening study centres etc., Kadambur (with a Christian base of 3 parishes and 2000 Catholics) presence too was initiated.

From 2005 the mission has tracked those with SSLC certificates and 600 youngsters who need some form of professional training and placement have been identified. The program project with the aid for COMIDE has aided in training the youth. In 2013, the Thalavadi mission has its own building to facilitate the residence and training.

Activities And Sectors

The Salesian community at Kadambur and Talawadi caters to the integral development of the tribal children, families, youth, men and women in and around the region.
