Dominic Savio Higher Secondary School
Dominic Savio Higher Secondary School, begun in 1952, is a Government-aided, Tamil medium school for boys. At present, the School has a strength of 1265 pupils, of which 330 Catholics, 12 Christians of other denominations, 852 Hindus and 31 Muslims. The teaching staff comprises 35 members (30 Catholics), of which 24 men and 11 women. The School employs 6 office staff and 5 domestic staff members. Catechism and Moral Science classes are held daily. First Friday mass is held for Catholics every month, annual retreat for staff and students, in addition to the daily morning assembly, Bible reading and the good morning talk. The students follow the house system. Importance is given to co-curricular activities along with sports and games. A seminar on the Right to Information was organized in the School. There are various Clubs and Associations, such as National Service Society (NSS), YCS/YSM, Scout Movement, Savio Cultural Academy, Maths Association, Eco Club, Junior Red Cross Society, the Science Club, Study and Research Team, English & Tamil Literary Associations, etc. There is regular monthly staff meeting, which also serves as a mode of animation for them.

At present, the Elementary School has 670 students on rolls, of which 70 Catholics. It is run by an FMA Sister as Headmistress, with a lay staff of 13 teachers (10 Catholics), 11 women and 2 men. Five domestic staff members are employed by the School.

The Salesian community also runs a boarding with 140 very poor boys, all of whom, except 2, are Catholics. They have daily celebration of the Holy Eucharist, Morning and Night Prayer, rosary and good night talks. Weekly confession, monthly recollection, Marian and Don Bosco devotions are also fostered. Feastdays are celebrated in a lively manner. An annual retreat is also organized. The discipline is good, and the boys are well looked after. They have regular singing classes, while animation and extra-curricular programmes are also conducted. The boarders are divided into 3 groups and 4 houses for the purpose of carrying out their daily tasks in an orderly manner, while at the same time giving them opportunity to grow together and to develop their talents. They are also given opportunities to meet various vocation promoters, with the intention of promoting vocations to Salesian and religious life. Special attention is given to the training of English and to help them cope with their studies, to pass in their examinations.
Neighbourhood Apostolate
The community also engages in the neighbourhood apostolate in 4 night study centres in the School campus. About 69 boys attend the evening classes regularly.
Past Pupils
There are about 400 registered members in the Past Pupils’ Unit. The Executive Committee members meet regularly on the last Wednesday of each month. The Annual General Body Meeting is held in the month of October or November each year. The Unit is quite active and supports the Institution in a very tangible manner. Some of the activities are: annual felicitation of the Jubilarians from the Management or teaching staff, organizing the annual Interschool Cultural Fest, awards to meritorious students in Stds. X and XII, medical and dental camps, monetary help to poor students in need, free uniforms to deserving students, financial and material help to gypsy children, and other assistance as and when the need arises.
