Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival Celebrates Love, Peace, and Solidarity in Chennai


On October 13, 2023, The second edition of the Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival (DBGYFF) was held at the Don Bosco Auditorium in Egmore, Chennai in the presence of around 1500 students and youth. This event was coordinated by Don Bosco Institute of Communication Arts (DBICA).

     

       A significant moment of the inauguration was the unveiling of the DBGYFF banner by the dignitaries, marking the official commencement of the event. The event was graced by eminent personalities like Mr. B. Lenin, a veteran film editor, director, and writer; Right Rev. Bishop A. M. Chinnappa, Archbishop Emeritus of Madras-Mylapore and the Founder of the Society of God's Reign; Rev. Father John Alexander SDB, Vice Provincial of Salesian Province of Chennai; Dr. D. Punitha, Head, Department of Communication & Dean for Women's Studies at Women's Christian College; Mr. V. Packirisamy, Former Regional Officer of Central Bureau of Film Certification (CBRC); Mr. E. V. Ganesh Babu, film director, producer, and actor; and Mr. Simon K. King, film music director. It is worth noting that among the special guests Lenin, Packirisamy and E. V. Ganesh Babu are winners of the recently announced National Film Awards for 2023 under various categories. These eminent personalities shared their personal associations with DBICA and imparted words of wisdom to the youth, emphasizing the role of films in today's world. The event was not just a showcase of films but a platform for meaningful discussions.

    The festival featured over 30 carefully selected films, each followed by engaging discussions that allowed participants to share their perspectives and insights. The festival offered a diverse array of films, each with its unique cultural nuances, artistic expressions, and storytelling. It was a true celebration of the universal language of cinema, highlighting how love, peace, and solidarity resonate in the hearts of people from different corners of the world. It was heartening to witness the enthusiasm and active participation of young minds throughout the event.

    The event was a testament to the power of film in fostering empathy and connection. As attendees, filmmakers, and organizers mingled and shared their perspectives, it became evident that the bonds forged during this festival extended beyond geographical boundaries. It was a celebration of the shared human experience, emphasizing the importance of unity and understanding in our increasingly interconnected world.

    Father Ernest Rosario, Director of DBICA, and Coordinator of the event felicitated and honored all the guests, technicians and student volunteers who were instrumental in the success of the event and he also encouraged the youth to explore their creativity through filmmaking and to submit their work to platforms like DBGYFF.

    The Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival 2023 succeeded not only in promoting love, peace, and solidarity but also in fostering a global community of young filmmakers dedicated to making a positive impact through their craft. The event stood as an inspiring platform that fostered dialogue, creativity, and a shared vision of a better world through the lens of cinema.
