Don Bosco Village Integral Animation (VIA), Veeralur celebrated Women’s Day in a very grand manner on 12th of March, 2022. The theme of the day’s celebration was the Protection of Natural Farming which is very timely and the need of the hour. There were 1000 women participants of Don Bosco VIA, Self-Help Groups from 27 villages in and around Adhamangalam, Veeralur. The programme began with the Tamil cultural dances like Kummi and Kolattam. It was a wonderful sight to see the women dancing with a full of life in a big number. The Chief Guests of the day, Mr. P. Selvam, Mr. R. L. Rosario and Mrs. Gnana Sigamani, the Headmistress of Girls Hr. Sec. School, Adamangalam, rightly insisted in her insisted about the importance of Girl-Child Education. After the cultural programme, there was a huge rally in the main streets of Adamangalam. The women carried with them pluck cards with the captions to care for the natural farming and thus become protectors of Mother Earth, our common home. It was followed by a great fellowship meal for all 1000 women participants. At the highpoint of the whole event, 1000 women were given each a sapling to be planted in their own places. It was truly a tangible way of bringing about change that starts from ourselves. A very big thanks to Fr. Thomas Alexander SDB, the Rector and the community of Veeralur for their hard work to conscientize the people to care for the Earth and for celebrating Women’s Day in a meaningful way.
