Identifying the problems of unorganised labourers


At the one-day seminar on Unorganised Labourers, organised by Sakthi Pengal Munnetra Sangam (VIA - Polur) for SHG Women Leaders on January 21, 2018, Rev. Fr. Bosco Francis SDB – Director, Migrant Youth animated the session.

    The main objective of organizing this seminar is to identify the problems of unorganized labour and to study the existing legislative and regulatory framework for the segment of workers. While explaining about the process of registration, Fr. Bosco talked about the methods of approaching the government for getting various funds related to unorganized sector registered labourers and their family members. “This seminar will definitely help to identify the problems of unorganized labourers. It will help to know about laws and regulations specially framed for them. It will help to understand the living and working conditions of the labourers. It will highlight the number of welfare measures still needed to be taken by employees/ contractors and government,” he pointed out..

    Rev. Fr. Pappuraj SDB, Rector, St.Mary’s Co-Cathedral, Chennai and Rev. Fr. Samson SDB (Director – SPMS (VIA)) presided over the program and gave valuable inputs on the topic. The session was attended by more than 350 Self Help Group Members and 60 Youth members.
