In his welcome address, Fr. John Alexander presented the findings of the Covid-impact survey conducted by the college. The survey revealed that 65% have lost regular income while almost 80% are undergoing fear and uncertainty about their future during this pandemic. Surprisingly 92% have not yet received vaccination of which 60% expressed unwillingness to receive vaccine. Therefore the survey recommended that major efforts have to be taken by the government and Salesian communities to change the mindset of the people and ensuring the availability of vaccines.
On this occasion, SHC presented 'Award of Excellence' to Siddha Doctor Vikram for his dedicated service in treating successfully more than 1500 patients in Tirupattur district. The profile and achievements of the recipient of the award were highlighted to the public by Principal Fr. Maria Antonyraj.
On behalf of the Chief Minister, the Chief Guests thanked SHC and Don Bosco Relief Services for having offered places in Tirupattur and Chennai for establishing Covid Care Centres. The guests were very pleased that the Covid Care Centres at MSW Block and Dominic Savio School have so far successfully treated more than 800 patients.
As a run-up to the event, a special vaccination camp was organized in SHC campus where 97 people including Salesians, Staff and Students received Covishield.
