In the presence of Rev. Fr. K. M. Jose, Provincial, Fr. John Christy, Rector and Fr. P. T. Joseph, Principal, felicitations and Prizes/Awards were given to many students who excelled in competitions and academic excellence. The Chief Guest was Mr. K. Govinda Prasad, Operations Director, Sun Branding Solutions India.
The occasion was also graced with the presence of Fr. Patrick Antonyraj SDB, Member of Youth Ministry Department, Salesian Generalate, Rome.
The Annual Report of SIGA Polytechnic College for the Academic Year 2017-18 was read out to more than 300 parents and students overflowing the Don Bosco Hall, They cheered, appreciated and witnessed SIGA for the 65 years of the dedicated service and splendid achievements in skilling the youth in the field of Printing Technology for the poor and needy youth of India.
Among the special guests at the 66th College and Parents day celebrations, were Mr. Govind Prasad, Operations Director, Sun Branding Solutions, India, who was the Chief Guest. He remarked, “It was the best turnround for me! Least expected the turnout and quality of team. Congrats to Fr. P. T. Joseph and other Salesians.”
Mr. Prabhakaran, Supreme Court Attorney, who was another special guest, said, “It is really a well organized and superb event, with excitement. The students are very good with discipline and good communication. Thanks to Fr. Christy and Fr. P. T. Joseph for organizing it.” Also present were two past students of SIGA - Mr. Daniel Nirmal Raj currently Head of Operations, Shawk India Ltd. and Mr. Croyden Jude D’Moore, currently Operations Manager, Sonoco-Trident, Chennai.
The VIP invitees at the function included Mr. Rajesh, Managing Director, Perfect Digitals and Mr. Samson Prakash, Managing Director, Samsel Publication.
In pursuit of the Institute – Industry Interactions, SIGA continues to explore avenues where collaborations are possible for the benefit of the students who study in the Polytechnic College.
Remembrance
All at SIGA remembered with deep sorrow the passing away of Rev. Bro. Julian Santi SDB, former Principal and Manager of SIGA, on Sunday 30 April 2017, at the age of 85, after a long battle against cancer, was recorded. In his death the Salesians have lost a great Son of Don Bosco, India a tireless promoter of printing technology, and the poor youngsters in Chennai a great friend and benefactor, the like of whom is not easy to find. He dedicated his entire life for the service of the young and the poor at SIGA and transformed the lives of thousands of young people. A moment’s silence was observed to pray for the soul of Rev. Bro. Julian Santi SDB.
Admissions, results and placements
The Number of Students enrolled in various Courses for the Academic year 2017-18 at SIGA Polytechnic college was 386. Out of the 67 final year students of the 2014-2017 batch which appeared for the Board Examinations conducted by Directorate of Technical Education, Govt. of TN in April 2017, 46 passed (69%) and were awarded Diploma in Printing Technology and among them, 34 (74%) were awarded First Class with Distinction. Along with the 46 students of Govt. Formal Diploma, 30 students also completed their Non-Formal SIGA Private Diploma Course. SIGA is proud to say that the entire pass-out students of the last academic year got 100% of job placements, like the previous years.
Infrastructure improvements
99.50 Studio is an incubator for creativity and ideas, sketching, drawing, painting, logo, wax modelling and other creative work.
SIGA-NexGen 3 D Printing Center of Excellence is a 3D Printing Studio which offers technical knowledge, education and training to empower students for career path.
The Museum, recently set up comprises of used printing machinery from within SIGA, facility to do live printing for take away as souvenirs, charts and photos to show evolution of printing technology.
A new Genset was installed for powering the new 8 color offset printing machine and as a standby for SIGA.
Institute – Industry Interactions: New Training Initiatives
SIGA –NexGen 3 D Printing Center of Excellence
SIGA, represented by Rev. Fr. John Christy, Rector and Rev. P.T. Joseph, Principal signed an MoU with NexGen 3D Printers represented by Mr. Rosu Reddy, Business Development.to educate its students for the future, by designing a tailor-made course in Printing Technology by Advanced Training Institute (ATI) Govt. of India, Chennai.
Advanced Training Institute (ATI) Guindy, approved SIGA students to get trained in their campus in the field of Printing Technology. SIGA has created a history in ATI that for the first time, ATI has approved the third party’s (SIGA’s) request to add the Printing trade, and 2nd year SIGA diploma course is the first batch to get trained in ATI. A Govt. “Certificate of Proficiency” will be given to the students at the end of the course.
