Sunday of the Poor & Job Fair at S.M.Nagar

Heeding to the call of Pope Francis, the parish community at S.M.Nagar, planned for the celebrations of the first World Day of the Poor on November 19, 2017 which was the 33rd Sunday of the ordinary time. There was a special Holy Mass with special liturgy. Children dressed up as six Saints of the Poor - Damien, Martin of Tours, Margaret of Scotland, Elizabeth of Hungary and Mother Teresa - on the stage made it more touching and enlivening.

The powerful sermon by Deacon Anto Sagayaraj SDB enkindled the listeners to a sincere soul searching. Fourteen people were given monetary assistance for various urgent and essential needs (medicine, education help, flooring, roofing etc.) to the tune of Rs.60, 000/- through the generous contribution of the Parishioners.

To mark the occasion of the World Day of the Poor, a Job Fair in collaboration with Rotary club of Chennai Towers and Equitas Trust was conducted on the same day, to enhance the economic viability of the families. In all, 28 companies took part in the Job Fair and 200 candidates registered themselves of which 20 were given appointment letters and 80 were short-listed.
