The Salesian Province of Chennai (INM) celebrated its Promise Day and Family Day with great devotion, joy, and spiritual fervour. Rooted in the Gospel invitation to “bear fruit that will last,” the celebration highlighted the deep call to serve in the spirit of Don Bosco. The event brought together members of the Salesian Family who gathered in an atmosphere of unity, gratitude, and spiritual renewal.
During the solemn ceremony, twenty-eight Salesian Cooperators made their Promise, marking a significant moment of commitment to the apostolic mission of the Church and the Salesian Family. Their wholehearted “yes” reflected a deep desire to serve the young, the poor, and the most vulnerable in society.
The ceremony was enriched by the gracious presence of Fr. Don Bosco, SDB, Provincial of Chennai; Sr. Margaret, FMA, Provincial; Fr. John Britto, SDB, Councillor and Salesian Family In-charge; Fr. Maria Louis, SDB, Provincial Delegate; Sr. Jackulain, FMA, Provincial Delegate; and Mr. John Bosco, Provincial Coordinator. Adding further grace and solemnity to the occasion were the Provincial Councillors, Local Delegates, and numerous members of the Salesian Family, whose participation made the celebration truly meaningful and memorable.
In preparation for this milestone, the candidates participated in a spiritually enriching retreat preached by Fr. Anbu Francis. His sessions deepened their understanding of Salesian spirituality and the Cooperator vocation, while the sacrament of confession helped them prepare their hearts to embrace God’s call with renewed faith and readiness.
The Solemn Eucharistic celebration formed the heart of the day. Presided over by the Provincial and concelebrated by Provincial Councillors and Delegates, the liturgy was prayerful, uplifting, and filled with a strong sense of God’s presence. It was during this sacred moment that the candidates made their Promise, committing themselves to live the charism of Don Bosco with fidelity and enthusiasm.
A felicitation ceremony followed, honouring the newly promised Cooperators and recognising the contributions of various groups within the Salesian Family. The gathering radiated joy, unity, and a renewed sense of purpose as families, Delegates, and Cooperators celebrated together as one Salesian Family. The event also reflected the vibrant growth of the Salesian Cooperators in the Chennai Province, whose dedication and service continue to strengthen the mission of Don Bosco.
The celebration stood as a powerful testament to the enduring vitality of the Salesian charism—joyful, service-oriented, and rooted in a deep commitment to God’s call. The newly promised Cooperators continue to carry forward Don Bosco’s legacy with faith, love, and apostolic zeal, enriching the mission of the Salesian Family across the province.
