The History of the HouseIn 1997, the new Bishop of Dharmapuri Bp. Joseph Antony invited the Salesians to care for the Diocesan Youth and to begin some ministry in the diocese. Two years later, Fr. Arul Mariraj SDB began the Don Bosco Matriculation School for the diocese. In 2005, Social ministry taking care of the gypsies, with additional services such as tailoring, self-help groups and career guidance were begun. In response to the decision of the Salesians to reach out to the youth than children via institutes of higher learning, the process to serve Dharmapuri region via an Arts and Science College was begun. In 2008 the Arts & Science college was begun with 4 Salesians, 10 staff and 250 students with Fr. Johnson Anthonisamy as the first Rector and Fr. Varghese Choorackal as the first Principal.

The next year, in 2008, the Teacher Training institute was setup -which 5 years later was suspended due to lack of takers. In 2012 the B. Ed college was begun with 5 staff and 85 students which today has 12 staff and 100 students. Now in 2013, the arts and science college functions with 10 Under Graduation courses, 6 Post Graduation courses, a research programme sustained by 5 salesians, 120 staff and benefits 2493 students.

Activities And Sectors
The Salesian community at Don Bosco, Dharmapuri offers higher education through Don Bosco Arts and Science College and Don Bosco College of Education (B.Ed and DBTTI), to the poor and deserving young people in and around Dharmapuri and other parts of Tamil Nadu. Through the education ministry, the college carries out its mission through graduate courses through Shift 1 and Shift 2 pattern. The community reaches out to the needs of the neighbourhood through various extension services in and around Dharmapuri through the MSW wing, such as: Childline, Vocational Training, Dropout Prevention & Children Parliaments, Renewed National TB Control Programme, Gypsy Ministry, Free Evening Tuitions, Community Development Programmes, Vazhikaatti, SHGs, andnSponsorship of children. The community also runs Don Bosco B.Ed. College to prepare candidates as teachers in schools.Higher Ed: Don Bosco College of Arts and Science – Don Bosco College of Education (B.Ed.)- Don Bosco Teachers’ Training Institute (D. T.Ed.). Social Ministry: Vazhikaatti Centre, Night Schools, Employability Skills Training, Adopting Schools and Villages, Chaplaincy.
