Aruloudhayam, signifies the Dawning of Grace. Its purpose is to help people, irrespective of caste or creed, to come in touch with the Divine within. Waking to the Divine within, they will flower forth as individuals towards the fullness of human hood (towards the ‘New Man’). And whilst flowering forth in this way, they would play an enlightened role as members of their society to evolve a better society.

History

Aruloudhayam Ashram was founded by Rev. Fr. Joseph Jaswant Raj who had been dreaming about creating an “Ashram” as a Salesian. While he was in Sacred Heart Seminary at Poonamalle, he had a Brain tumor, and he had been operated for three times at Ramachandra Hospital. Due to this, he lost use of both of his legs. But with the help and Grace of Mary Help of Christians on 24th of May, 1999 he once again walked normally. As he was staying in the Bishop’s house under the care of Bishop Chinnappa sdb for radiations at CMC Vellore, he spotted out A. Kattupadi to begin the Ashram. Thus the foundation stone of Arulodhayam was laid on 8th September 1999. Since he had to undergo radiation treatment, Fr. George, the parish priest helped him to complete the works. On 19th February 2000 the Ashram was blessed by Rt. Rev. Bishop Chinnappa, Bishop of Vellore and opened by Rev. Fr. Peter Kubis his close friend from Germany along with his collaborators Rev. Fr. Jayaraj S.J, and Fr. Benny.
