History of the HouseInaugurated on October 25, 1953, St. Joseph Boys’ Home and Industrial School was begun by Rev. Fr. Hugh Tuena SDB (1906-1966), as a shelter home for the orphans and neglected youth of Vellore Diocese of Tamil Nadu. It provides technical training (formal and non-formal) in Carpentry, Tailoring, Welding, Electrician, Auto-Mechanic and Brass Band for the school dropouts and poor young boys. Skill training in Carpentry (Certificate course from the State
Government of Tamil Nadu) is a three-year programme benefitting 22 boys every year. The Auto-Mechanic section was opened on December 8, 1976 with fifteen students. To address the rapid growth and demand for this trade, in 1982 a new shed was constructed for this section.St. Mary’s College of Education.
