Mrs. SAVARIAMMAL aged 76, mother of Fr. Charles Gaspar sdb breathed her last on the 12th of May 2021 at 3.00pm in the evening at Thiruvannamalai. She is the mother of 10 children of whom 5 eventually became catholic priests serving in different parts of the world.

    To be exact, 4 of them joined different religious congregations and the other one joined the diocese of Vellore. Fr. Andrew the eldest son joined the SDM congregation. Fr. Peter Raj belongs to the diocese of Vellore. Fr. Charles Gaspar sdb joined the Salesians of Don Bosco and at present, he is serving as the Vice principal of SIGA, Kilpauk. Fr. Joseph belongs to the Carmelite congregation and at present he is serving the mission at Germany. Fr. Roche OFM Cap. joined the order of capuchins and at present, he is serving as the Director of the formation house at United States.

    Mrs.Savariammal was born on 28th October 1945 in a devout catholic family. Later she married Mr. Gaspar who was serving as a Head Master then and both got settled in Illayankanni. Mr. Gaspar was fondly called as periya vaathiyaar (Great Teacher) and many people remember him for his famous paschal dramas which he used to stage every year during the paschal season till date. They belonged to the parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Illayankanni which belongs to the diocese of Vellore. On 13th of May 2021, around 3.00pm the funeral mass was celebrated by Fr. Andrew SDM, the eldest son in the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Around 20 priests from various congregations and dioceses concelebrated in the Holy Eucharist.

    Fr.Kasi Sagayaraj sdb preached the homily and he highlighted her exemplary Christian life and he underlined her important role in the faith formation of all her children. The holy Eucharist ended around 4.30pm and her mortal remains were laid to rest in their family cemetery. In the midst of the present scenario where the vocations to Priesthood and Religious life are dwindling in every continent, she stands as an inspiration for all mothers to foster many more vocations in the vineyard of the Lord.
