SIGA and MPLA Collaborate to Enrich Print Industry


1952: The year in which the twins were born. SIGA (Salesian Institute of Graphic Arts) and MPLA, the first association of printers in South India This year, 75 diploma students of Printing Technology were awarded the merit certificates by Father Dr. F.Andrew SJ, Principal of Loyola College, Chennai, Mr.G.N.Visvakumar, President of Madras Printers Lithography Association (MPLA), and Father Charles Gaspar, Former Principal of SIGA. Among several accolades, the Gold Medal adorned Mr.A.Gino of Government 3-year diploma course and Mr. Paul Jefferson of SIGA Private 3-year diploma course. The college graduation ceremony was organized by SIGA Polytechnic College at Don Bosco Kilpauk campus on 2nd March 2019 at 10 AM.

    After the formal colourful ceremony, the office bearers of MPLA welcomed the graduates to the Printing and Packaging Industry and assured them the joy of growing together with the charming Print Media industry in the country. The event was sponsored by MPLA, Hatson Agro Product Ltd, and SIGA Society.

    Panel Discussion:

    For an hour, Mr. P. Chander coordinated the floor discussion on new opportunities in Skilling India and trends in the job market. Mr. G.N. VisvaKumar, presided and Father PT Joseph, Principal of SIGA Polytechnic College joined the panel of MPLA officials who responded to the floor questions. “Printing is growing and attracting other disciplines”, said Joseph. “The electronic printing and 3D Printing are such proofs that will change the dynamics of electronic and manufacturing business in the world”, he reiterated. Mr. Anbazhagan, Honorary Secretary, Mr. S. Krishna Kumar, Joint Secretary, Mr. Jolly Peter, Treasurer, graced the event with their presence and interaction.

    SIGA management thanked and honored MPLA for their presence and for their invitation to engage in eAge Print 2019 scheduled from 31 May to 3 June 2019 at Chennai Trade Centre.

    Diploma in Printing Technology (Formal)

    This is a 3-year course leading to DPT (Diploma in Printing Technology). It is offered to students who qualify for it as per the rules and regulations of the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) Tamil Nadu. The curriculum for the DPT is prepared in accordance with the syllabus prescribed by the State Board of Technical Education and Training, Tamil Nadu. Examinations, at the end of each semester, both in theory and practicals, will be conducted by the same Board.

    Diploma in Printing Technology (Non-Formal)

    This is a 3-year course leading to DPT (Diploma in Printing Technology). It is offered by SIGA Society, a member of Salesians of Don Bosco, worldwide. The curriculum for the DPT is prepared in accordance with the syllabus prescribed by the SIGA Academic Board. The programme embodies 1 year of on-job-training in the industrial environment. Examinations are held at the end of each semester, both in theory and practicals.

    Post Graduate Diploma in Printing and Packaging Technology (Non-Formal)

    This is a 1-year full-time course leading to PGDPPT (PG Diploma in Printing and Packaging Technology). It is offered by SIGA Society, It is an interdisciplinary programme aimed at the students from Visual Communication, Fine Arts, and any UG programme. A field study and project submission are prerequisites to complete the course.
