Social Media for Social Change

Social Media for Social Change was the topic for the training and animation session by DBSARC, Polur on October 17, 2017, at Don Bosco Matriculation H. S. School, Tirupattur. Animated by Fr. Arul Valan and Mr Stephen Raj, the session was held for the students, divided into four groups - Group 1: XI & XII stds; Group 2: IX & X stds; Group 3: VII & VIII and Group 4: V & VI.

It was interesting to know that even students from Class 5 were using Facebook and WhatsApp. Most of them had their own smartphones and spends an average of two hours a day on social media. An additional hour was spent on playing games on the phone. Some even became agitated when there was no Internet connection. The challenge here was to tell them how to use social media responsibly for social change. And, to emphasise on why to bring about a social change.

Guidelines were given to them to use social media for the social action, without being affected.
