Salesian Education Leaders Gather at Chennai to Reimagine Education and Culture

  • Chennai, 24 October 2026: The Education and Culture Dimension cum School Coordinators’ Meeting of the Salesian Provinces of South Asia was held on 23–24 October 2026 at The Citadel, Don Bosco Provincial House, Chennai. Hosted by the Salesian Province of Chennai (INM), the gathering brought together Salesian leaders and coordinators to reflect on emerging educational challenges, share best practices, and strengthen the Salesian mission of educating young people.

  • The meeting commenced with the Holy Eucharist, followed by an inaugural ceremony and welcome address by Rev. Fr. Don Bosco Lourdusamy, Provincial of Chennai. The sessions were animated by Rev. Fr. John Parankimalil, Coordinator and In-charge of Education and Culture, South Asia, and Rev. Fr. Patrick Lepcha, Director of Don Bosco Youth Animation (DBYA), along with other resource persons. Key themes included educating hearts and transforming cultures, child safety and institutional risk management, the art of accompaniment, and leadership in Salesian schools. Province presentations offered opportunities to share achievements, challenges, and innovative educational practices.

  • The second day focused on Magnifica Humanitas: Becoming Human in this AI Age, inviting participants to reflect on human dignity and the responsible integration of emerging technologies in education. A panel discussion explored the role of education and culture in transforming Indian society, featuring Mr. Sathish S, Mr. Rennis Joseph, and Mr. Mark Antony Sequeira, moderated by Rev. Fr. Raj Kumar Fernandes SDB.

  • The gathering concluded with collaborative reflection and action planning to strengthen the Education and Culture

    Dimension at the provincial level. The celebration of the Holy Mass at St. Thomas Shrine and fellowship at St. Bede’s Community further enriched the experience.

  • The meeting renewed the participants’ commitment to educational excellence, holistic formation, and the Salesian mission of accompanying young people with hope, care, and responsibility in a rapidly changing world.
