Walking the Journey of Lifelong Formation: Rectors and Leaders Study the New RATIO

The Salesian Province of Chennai (INM) organised a study and training session on the New RATIO for its Rectors and Leaders on 30 October 2026 at the Citadel, Chennai. The initiative aimed to deepen the confreres’ understanding of Salesian formation and its relevance to the life and mission of the Congregation.

The session began with an orientation by Fr. John Alexander, Vice Provincial and Formation Delegate, who highlighted the significance of the New RATIO as a guiding document for Salesian formation. He emphasised the importance of studying and internalising its vision and guidelines and encouraged the Rectors and Leaders to take an active role in animating formation within their respective communities.

To facilitate meaningful participation and deeper reflection, the participants were divided into six groups, each coordinated by a Provincial Councillor and guided by a designated study guide. Each group was assigned a specific chapter for reading, reflection, discussion, and sharing. The group discussions provided an enriching opportunity for the confreres to exchange insights, deepen their understanding, and explore the practical implications of the document for Salesian life and ministry.

Following the group study, representatives from each group presented the key points and insights from their respective chapters to the larger assembly. These presentations enabled the participants to benefit from the collective reflections and gain a broader understanding of the various themes addressed in the RATIO.

The Provincial Fr L. Don Bosco concluded with his personal reflection highlighting the importance of Ratio as an animating tool for the life and animation of the Rectors in their communities.

The training was a valuable step towards strengthening the Province’s commitment to ongoing formation and the renewal of Salesian life and mission. It reaffirmed the responsibility of Rectors and Leaders to foster a culture of accompaniment, discernment, and lifelong growth, ensuring that the vision of the New RATIO is translated into the daily life of every Salesian community.
