The History of the HouseFollowing the visit by the provincial team in 1996 Salesians undertook parish work, a technical school and the service of Youth Direction at the diocesan level. Frs.Maria Arulraj and Patrick Alphonse came in 1997 and on 16th August 1998, the Ferrargunj parish was handed over to the Salesians. Gradually the Salesians branched into social work and organised the people into Self Help Groups.

The technical school was begun as a response to contain the alarming situation of the youth who were 75% school dropouts. With the assistance of COMIDE, in 2003, a 2 wheeler workshop for boys, at Lalpahar was begun in the land bought in 2001 by Fr. Patrick Alphonse along with a tailoring institute at Ferrargunj. In the post tsunami scenario technical education received a boost in funding through the German Government projects. In 2012, an English Medium School has been initiated on the CBSE pattern at Lalpahar itself -while the technical school has been scaled down to driver-training for the youth at the same venue.

After the contribution by 4 Salesians like Fr. Cassius Correya, Dolphie Sequeira etc., the service of the diocesan youth direction has been retracted into the diocesan hands again.

Activities And Sectors

The Salesian Community at DIYAA caters to the non-formal technical training of poor youngsters of the region through a few courses – driving (100 boys a year), tailoring (40 girls) computers (25). The community also offers hostel facilities for the poor and deserving boys.Academic Ed: Don Bosco School (CBSE), Technical Ed: Driving, Hostel for Boys.
