The History of the HouseDon Bosco High school – Perambur, came into existence on 22nd June 1963 under Rev. Fr. John Med, the Provincial. Rev. Fr. S. Thomas was the first Headmaster and Correspondent with five teachers and a clerk to start with. The School functioned then in a shed attached to the Parish Church of Perambur. Within a month, on 16th July 1963, the school was shifted to the new site on the Madhavaram High Road near the Simpson factories.

The foundation stone of the main school building was laid on 16th Aug 1966 by Rt. Rev. Dr. P. Carvallo, the auxiliary Bishop of Madras-Mylapore in the presence of the Salesian Provincial to commemorate the conclusion of the Sesquicentennial anniversary of the birth of St. John Bosco. Within a year the new construction was completed and it was solemnly inaugurated by the late Thiru C. N. Annadurai, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on 11th July 1967. The Chief Minister paid glowing tributes to the Christian Missionaries and their contribution to the cause of education, especially in the education of the poor. In June 1978, Don Bosco High school was elevated to the status of a Higher secondary school with the 10+2 pattern of education coming in.

On 24th May 1980, Don Bosco Boy’s Home was started for boarders. With Salesians residing in the campus, the Don Bosco institution was canonically erected with Rev. Fr. V. T. Sabastian as Rector, Correspondent and Headmaster. On 24th May 1981, the new building for Don Bosco Boys’ Home was blessed. On 20th June 1983 Don Bosco Nursery and Primary School was started in the same campus. On 29th June 2012 a Missionary Aspirantate was begun in the same campus in the place of the boarding, the boarding being closed with the previous academic year.

Activities And Sectors

The Salesian community at Don Bosco Boys’ Home – Perambur caters to the formation of young aspirants in the Missionary Aspirantate and education to the young of the locality through the Nursery and Primary School, and Higher Secondary school.
